Custom kitchens in Waterloo
Hailey Inc builds custom kitchens in Waterloo for homeowners who want a kitchen designed around their room rather than a catalogue. We plan the layout with you, build and paint the cabinets in our Guelph shop, and install them with our own crew. Whether it is an older house near Uptown, a 1980s home in Beechwood or a newer build in Vista Hills, the kitchen is made to fit the house it goes into.

Designed with you, made in our own shop.
Every Waterloo kitchen we build is made from scratch in our shop in Guelph, about 35 minutes away. We cut the parts on our own CNC machine, assemble the boxes, and prime and paint the doors in house. Nothing is ordered in from a cabinet factory, so the sizes, the door style and the colour are whatever your kitchen needs.
We have run the business as a family since 2005. It is named for owner Matt's daughter, Hailey, and a portion of our workmanship goes to a foundation supporting the study of infant death.
- Our own CNC. Cabinet parts cut accurately in our shop.
- Painted in house. Primed and sprayed before the cabinets leave the shop.
- Range hoods too. Canadian made Victory range hoods, supplied and installed with your new kitchen.

What Waterloo kitchens usually need.
Waterloo is a university and tech city, and a lot of it was built in the last fifty years. The older streets around Uptown and the MacGregor and Albert area sit alongside 1970s and 80s neighbourhoods like Lakeshore, Beechwood and Eastbridge, and newer homes on the west side in areas like Laurelwood, Columbia Forest and Vista Hills.
- Older homes near Uptown. Smaller kitchens with original walls, where made to measure cabinets and a smarter layout gain real storage.
- 1970s to 90s homes. Many still have their original oak or laminate kitchens. Some layouts work and only need new cabinets; others benefit from removing a wall to the family room.
- Newer west side homes. Taller ceilings and open plans, where uppers can run to the ceiling and a large island becomes the centre of the room.
- Condos and townhouses. Compact kitchens near the universities and Uptown, where every cabinet has to work hard.
Things we plan for in Waterloo.
A lot of Waterloo homes from the 1980s and 90s still have oak cabinets. If the boxes are solid and the layout works, replacing everything is not always the best use of your budget. We look honestly at what you have, and sometimes a kitchen cabinet respray or refacing is the better answer.
Newer homes on the west side often have nine foot ceilings or higher. Cabinets built to that height add a lot of storage, but the top shelves need a plan, so we talk through what goes up high and whether stacked uppers or glass tops suit the room.
The MacGregor and Albert area is a heritage conservation district, where the rules focus mainly on the outside of the house. Inside, as elsewhere in the city, new cabinets in the same layout do not usually need a permit, while moving a load bearing wall or plumbing usually needs one from the City of Waterloo.
Choosing a kitchen style.
Because every door is made in our shop, the style is up to you. These are the looks we build most, and what each one asks of you.
- Shaker. A simple frame and flat centre panel. Timeless, suits almost any house, and hides wear well.
- Modern slab. Flat doors with clean lines. Very sleek, but fingerprints and chips show more on a flat painted face.
- Transitional. Shaker doors with slim hardware and simple mouldings, a middle ground that suits newer Waterloo homes.
- Details. Crown moulding, glass uppers, open shelves and a statement range hood give a kitchen its character.

What sets the price of a Waterloo kitchen.
Every Waterloo kitchen gets a free estimate and a written quote for that room. The same size of kitchen can cost very different amounts depending on these things:
- Ceiling height. Cabinets to a nine or ten foot ceiling mean more cabinet.
- Walls and plumbing. Opening to a family room or moving the sink adds work.
- Style and finish. Door style, paint colour, mouldings and hardware.
- Extras. Islands, pantry walls, a range hood and a coffee or bar area.
Waterloo kitchen questions.
Should I replace or refinish my old oak cabinets?
If the boxes are solid and you like the layout, a respray or refacing costs less and changes the look completely. If the layout does not work or the boxes are worn out, a new custom kitchen makes more sense. We will tell you which we would choose at the estimate.
Do you supply range hoods?
Yes. We supply and install Canadian made Victory range hoods with new kitchens.
Can you build cabinets to a nine or ten foot ceiling?
Yes. Every cabinet is made to measure, so we can build to your ceiling height with stacked uppers, glass tops or crown moulding.
Do you work in Waterloo condos?
Yes. We plan around your building's rules for renovations and deliveries, and the cabinets arrive finished.
